Teaching kids how to take deep breaths can be a fun way to help them manage stress, focus better, and feel calm in any situation. Whether at home, in the classroom, or during a busy day, these simple deep breathing exercises can work wonders. Below are 12 fun and easy breathing exercises that kids will enjoy while learning how to relax and recharge.

1. Balloon Breaths

Pretend you’re blowing up a giant balloon. Take a deep breath in through your nose, filling your belly with air like a big balloon. Then, slowly breathe out through your mouth as if you’re letting all the air out. Repeat this five times, watching your imaginary balloon grow and shrink.

2. Rainbow Breaths

Imagine you’re painting a beautiful rainbow in the sky with your breath. Breathe in deeply and slowly raise your arms up over your head, like you’re painting the first part of the rainbow. As you breathe out, bring your arms down, finishing your rainbow. Repeat this for each color of the rainbow.

3. Flower Breaths

Pretend you’re holding a flower in your hand. Take a deep breath in through your nose and imagine you’re smelling the flower. Then, slowly breathe out through your mouth, blowing away any imaginary petals that might float away. Repeat five times, taking in the calming scent of your favorite flower.

4. Snake Breaths

Take a deep breath in through your nose, then as you breathe out, make a long, slow "ssssss" sound, like a snake. See how long you can make your “sss” last as you breathe out. Repeat this four times, each time making your snake sound a little longer.

5. Star Breaths

Spread your arms and legs out wide like a starfish. As you breathe in, bring your arms and legs together in front of you. As you breathe out, stretch them back out wide. Imagine you’re a star glowing brighter with each breath. Repeat six times, twinkling and shining with each breath.

6. Dragon Breaths

Pretend you’re a fierce but friendly dragon. Take a big breath in through your nose, and as you breathe out, imagine blowing out fire in front of you. Breathe out slowly and powerfully through your mouth, watching your fiery breath. Repeat five times, breathing out more fire each time.

7. Teddy Bear Breaths

Lie down on your back with a stuffed animal on your belly. As you take a deep breath in, watch your teddy bear rise with your belly. As you breathe out, watch it slowly lower. Repeat this six times, watching your stuffed animal rise and fall like it’s going on a gentle ride.

8. Volcano Breaths

Stand with your hands in front of your heart, palms pressed together. As you breathe in, slowly lift your arms up toward the sky like a volcano getting ready to erupt. As you breathe out, spread your arms wide and let your volcano “explode” gently. Repeat four times, letting all your energy flow out with the breath.

9. Bubble Breaths

Pretend you’re blowing bubbles. Take a deep breath in through your nose and then slowly breathe out through your mouth like you’re blowing the biggest bubble ever. Try not to pop the bubble by blowing too fast! Repeat five times, imagining all your worries floating away in the bubbles.

10. Ocean Wave Breaths

Sit down and pretend you’re sitting by the ocean. As you take a deep breath in, imagine the waves coming in toward the shore. As you breathe out, imagine the waves rolling back out to sea. Repeat five times, letting the sound of your breath be as calming as ocean waves.

11. Rocket Ship Breaths

Get ready for takeoff! Start in a crouched position with your arms by your sides. As you breathe in, slowly stand up and raise your arms toward the sky like a rocket lifting off. As you breathe out, bring your arms back down and gently lower yourself into a crouch. Repeat this five times, blasting off with each breath.

12. Butterfly Breaths

Sit with your feet together and knees spread wide like butterfly wings. As you breathe in, slowly raise your arms above your head like a butterfly opening its wings. As you breathe out, lower your arms back down. Repeat six times, letting your butterfly gently fly through the air with each breath.
