Winter-Themed Yoga Fun for Your Classroom
Winter is a magical season full of wonder and excitement, and what better way to embrace it than with yoga? At Little Yogis Academy, we’ve created a collection of fun and engaging winter-themed yoga poses, breathing exercises, and mindfulness activities to keep your preschool and primary students moving, learning, and smiling this winter!
Winter Yoga Poses
These poses are designed to spark imagination while helping kids build strength, balance, and flexibility. Here are some of our favorite winter-themed yoga poses:
1. Snowy Tree (Tree Pose)

- How to Do It: Stand tall like a tree with your arms at your sides. Lift one foot and rest it on your ankle, calf, or thigh (whichever feels most steady). Stretch your arms up high like snowy branches reaching for the sky.
- Kid-Friendly Tip: Pretend you're a snowy tree standing in a winter forest. Can you balance without the wind knocking you over? If you wobble, just say, “Timber!” and try again.
2. Snowy Cottage (Downward Dog Pose)

- How to Do It: Start on your hands and knees, then lift your hips high to create a triangle shape with your body. Keep your hands and feet firmly on the ground.
- Kid-Friendly Tip: Imagine you're a cozy snowy cottage with a pointed roof. Can you make your cottage as strong and steady as possible?
3. Snowman Pose (Eagle Pose)

- How to Do It: Stand tall, then cross one leg over the other like a snowman’s stick arms. Wrap one arm under the other and try to touch your palms together. Bend your knees slightly and balance.
- Kid-Friendly Tip: Pretend you're a snowman holding yourself together in the wind. Can you keep all your snowballs stacked without falling apart?
4. Sledding Pose (Boat Pose)

- How to Do It: Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat. Lean back slightly, lift your feet off the ground, and balance on your bottom. Stretch your arms forward like you’re holding onto the sides of a sled.
- Kid-Friendly Tip: Imagine you’re sledding down a snowy hill! Can you balance as the sled zooms and swerves?
Winter Breathing Exercises
Help your students focus and calm their minds with these simple, winter-themed breathing activities:
1. Snowflake Breathing
- Pretend to catch a snowflake on your finger. Breathe in deeply through your nose as you watch it fall, and breathe out slowly through your mouth to blow it gently away.
2. Hot Cocoa Breath
- Imagine holding a warm cup of hot cocoa. Inhale deeply through your nose to smell the delicious chocolate, then exhale softly through your mouth to cool it down.
Winter-Themed Mindfulness Craft
Mindful Snow Globes
Making mindful snow globes is a fun and calming winter craft that doubles as a mindfulness tool.
Materials Needed:
- Small jars with lids (plastic or glass)
- Glitter or sequins
- Glycerin or clear glue
- Water
- Small figurines or winter-themed decorations
Instructions:
- Fill the jar almost to the top with water.
- Add a few drops of glycerin or clear glue to make the glitter float more slowly.
- Sprinkle in glitter or sequins (like snowflakes).
- Add a small figurine or decoration (snowman, tree, etc.).
- Seal the lid tightly (you can add glue to the rim for extra security).
- Shake the globe and watch the "snow" swirl around.
Mindfulness Tip: Encourage kids to take a moment to shake their snow globes and watch the glitter settle as they take slow, deep breaths. This is a great way to practice calming down and staying present.
